Mohair Cinches

Whenever I’m at a craft show with folks from different backgrounds, I’ll hear someone ask what the stringy thing with two buckles on the end is. Usually a horse savvy person will explain to the non-horse person that ‘it’s the belt that keeps the saddle on the horse’. Well, basically!

A cinch is a western term, originating from the Spinach ‘cincha’. English riders will call the same piece of tack a girth. Either term is correct.

This essential piece of tack can be made from many different materials, but there is one that’s superior and that’s mohair.
